Kristen asked that I make artwork that goes with her theme and look to go on top of the client's CD. Here is what we came up with. I thought it was a fun project. This was the first time I have done CD artwork. Thanks Kristen for the opportunity.

Hey all,

This was a fun logo. Kristen wanted a vintage/flourish logo that fit with the style of her photos. She gave me the colors of yellow, gray, and hot pink. Together we came up with this. I thought it was perfect. Let me know what you think.

New face in town..

This new logo design lead me on a journey. It was interesting as I worked with letterforms and then ultimately arrived here. We worked closely together to achieve this logo.

New Design job...

New to the post, but an older design. I forgot to post this logo when I finished the job last year sometime. I am going to add the sketches in later, I need to scan them in first. But this is where we ended up. First is the logo, then the business cards. Wanda wanted me to use the primary colors to make her seem more approachable and easy to work with. She wanted to take the fear out of working with an accountant.

The final touch was the quotes she has been living by "with WLP it's as easy as 123..."

Our design class got split up into groups. Our group named ourselves flip. We were each challenged to draw up a logo for our team. Then we were to get together and choose the one we like the best and submit it for our grade. The class chose mine. This was what it looked like. Our motto is: "I think, therefore I flip" It was actually really fun.

Two new design projects in design classes

We had two assignments and I wanted to post the outcome. Leave a comment if you like them, or try the second one. It is a fun challenge: especially for those tricky letters.

The first project was to design our mission statement. We had to start by developing and writing our own personal mission statement. We had several lectures on the subject and then we filled out a worksheet. Here is what I came up with...

I chose to use a picture of my family, because they drive me on days I drag. Some days are random design funk days, and they pull me out.

The second was a challenge to get started. We had to figure out an idea first. The assignment was called alphabet soup. So we had to go out "in the real world" and find one of each of the letters of the alphabet. There were a couple restrictions. We could only use one letter from any particular sign or design. We could not use the internet, we had to take the picture. Also, if we could come up with a theme, we get up to 20 additional points. Finally, we had to have and work with a partner. To not do so results in an automatic loss of 50 points on a 50 point assignment. Marie and I came up with the theme of candy. We visited a candy shop and took tons of pictures of labels and posters. Then we assembled it in photoshop and here is what we came up with... How many of the letterforms do you recognize? Can you list all of the candies we used?

So yeah... thats what we have been up to.

Lately I have been in this smooth rut of design funk. I feel stifled by the program at ASU who tells us in these first few years that if you are different, you are wrong. The object of the game for the first few years is to look just like everyone else, just a bit better. In my spare time I have been designing blog layouts and headers for my family and some friends. School is time consuming!

Sorry it has been a while, school and family keep me pretty busy...

I was challenged in one of my classes to write a Hero's Journey paper. The assignment was given in my Designing Life class. It is worth 300 points out of the 600 total in the class. A huge chunk of the grade is presentation and design. (it being a design class and all). I got this wonderful idea to make my story epic. I made it into a scroll. Here are some of the pictures of the process. It was fun and I learned new techniques. The people I work with are fountains of knowledge. Thanks Doug, Frani, Nathan, and Geoff for inspiration and assistance.

Since this class is starting in Texas, I figured a Texas themed logo was in order.
I am totally into this teaching thing, I hope I can make it play out as it is in my head.

After working in Adobe Photoshop for about four years, I still feel like a student. I am always learning new tricks for different techniques. I love learning how fascinating this program really is. The "hidden skills" are endless. Anyway, after all this time of leaching techniques and skills from the "professionals" I have had a chance to shadow, I feel as though I have hit a new signpost or mile marker if you will. I get to share with others! I have been invited by Scrapp'n Savvy to teach a Photoshopp'n 101 class. I am so pumped for it! I have already started putting together handouts and brainstorming ideas for "secret projects" and maybe I will throw in some challenges that will win prizes of some sort. All I know is this class is going to be awesome! I am pumped for it and it isn't even until July! I can't even imagine the ideas that will fill and leave my brain between then and now... oh the possibilities. If you live in the Houston area, and want in on the fun, leave a comment with your email address and I can get you the details... Don't be afraid, the computer will not bite. If you have only turned on your computer and opened the program, I will help you get over the edge of fear and into pools of creativity only your mind with the help of your hand can explore. I will have one on one time and get some of your questions answered, from the basic ones to the complex ones. If I don't have an answer for you I will find one and let you know. This class is designed for the basics. Hopefully I will be asked back for "102" and we can dive in a bit deeper... Until then...

This is a business card/logo design look I created for a tow company.
The car and the pitchfork ended up being what they wanted their look to be.
They wanted to go with the ASU feel since they are a local company here in Phoenix.

Here are some pictures of some of my school projects I have done.
The first is a vector re-creation of a favorite childhood place.
The second is a scene from a Wii game that I redrew in Illustrator.
The third Is a picture of my wife and I that I turned into vector art.
Fourth was an opposing texture piece. I made the wallpaper and the furry pacifiers.
And the final piece is three wallpapers made from my zodiac sign... scorpio.
